The challenge

Pairing a real story with satisfying combat

A story-based action game has to do two things well at once. The narrative has to give players a reason to care, and the moment-to-moment combat has to feel sharp and responsive enough to carry hours of play. On top of that, the game needed to keep evolving, introducing new weapons, abilities, powers and events without losing its consistent, gothic visual identity.

Our approach

Research first, then build

We grounded the design in Ragnor's story: a hero protecting the one last tree planted for him by his grandfather, standing against the Geisters who want to claim the valley. From that emotional centre we built out pixel-perfect gameplay in Unity, tuning sword combat and movement for an action-driven feel, layering in new weapons, abilities and powers, and adding survival-oriented systems with saved progress and an upgrade shop to keep players coming back.
